external monitor connection

Hey guys. A few years ago my brother got a laptop for college. He rolled over it with a computer chair and cracked the screen. It worked for a while with the screen cracked but now its just black. I wanted to use an external monitor but not being able to see anything on the laptop, I cant see what im doing. I was wondering if there was any way to get the monitor to work. The laptop is a toshiba satellite c675 and the monitor is a gateway lcd. Any help would be appreciated.

press Fn+F5 or Win+P....if this doesnt work....connect your laptop to the external monitor, then shut off your laptop. turn it back on and close your laptop lid right after, this should automatically push the data to your external monitor...for this youre going to need an external keyboard and mouse (obv cus your laptop will be closed). hope this helps.
