Laptop specs: (Dell Site Here)
i7 8750H with UHD 630 (outputs via Thunderbolt 3 port)
RTX 2070MQ (outputs via HDMI and Mini-DP)
32GB RAM (2x16GB 3200mhz)

I have set in Nvidia Control Panel for my PC to use the Nvidia GPU as preferred and have it connected via HDMI to Mini-HDMI (external monitor, my inbuilt monitor is limited to 60hz whilst the external monitor can do 144hz so I set it as my main monitor) but despite the Dell site listing that my Nvidia GPU outputs via HDMI and Mini-DP and the UHD 630 is meant to use the Thunderbolt 3 Port the UHD 630 card is being used for the external monitor?
Doing simple things like watching videos causes the iGPU to suddenly spike to 90%+ usage and causes my CPU to turbo down for some reason (down from 3.9Ghz to 3.5Ghz - 2.7Ghz).
I am running the monitors in an extended display setup if that changes anything?

[Update: I have noticed that having the external monitor on a higher resolution scale allows it to run at a lower usage. Still not figured out how to swap Nvidia GPU to external monitor]

When gaming, are you getting the expected performance out of it? And is it using the NVIDIA graphics?

Some laptops automatically switch between the two GPUs, so maybe that is what you're experiencing with low demand tasks(?)

I couldn't find your laptop specifically because the link lead me to the DELL site with a bunch of laptops, not a specific one.

When launching games it does swap to the 2070.
If you search for "Alienware 03R2RY" it should lead you to my laptops spec list on the Dell site.
