This one is really annoying, and a weird one too. I plug my DVD/CD drive into my USB slots. Windows makes an alert sound, like something has been plugged in, but:
-The My PC folder shows NO SIGN of any external drive being plugged in.
-My device manager has no “DVD/CD drive” subfolder, even on viewing hidden items.
Naturally I have tried the following:
-Rebooted.
-Troubleshooting problems, no problems found.
-Uninstalled the (Pardon me, I forgot the name, I think it was something along the lines of “IT/API drives”. Sorry about that.) Intel Chipset. No effect. (Also rebooted.)
-SFC file scan. Also nothing.
Here, I’ve even dug into my registry files.
-Attempted to delete UpperFilter and LowerFilter in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\ {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}. Nothing found.
-Made a new Controller0 key, created a 32-Bit DWORD EnumDevice1 and set the value to 1 in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\atapi\
None of this worked, and I’m really losing hope here. Yes, I’ve tried all of the available USB slots, and some don’t alert windows about the connection. Yeah, even the ones right behind the motherboard.
My specs:
Processor - Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-8600K CPU 6-Core @ 3.60GHz.
GPU - EVGA | NVIDIA GeForce 1080Ti
RAM - 16GB
Motherboard - Asus ROG STRIX Z370-F GAMING OS -
Windows 10 64-bit
I have no idea what my external drive is, and I can’t even check because it’s not recognised by Windows. Great.
So, as a summary;
How can I check, without the help of Windows 10, what my external drive is? What can I do to make it work again? It worked before.
EDIT: I found out the model number. My CD drive is: ASUS SBW-06D2X-U 6x Black Slim External Blu-ray Re-Writer USB.
