Hello Tom's hardware,

I have a 8TB external RAID 5 "Raidon SafeTANK GR5630-WSB3+" drive, a Windows 7 x64 and limited to USB conectivity ONLY.

The problem is that the external drive is not properly recognised.

Device manager detects a properly working "H/W RAID 5 USB Device" with no problems yet i am unable to access in any way the driver's contents.

Sometimes it constantly "chatters" thus both the Device Manager and My Computer refreshes every second (both the Device Manager's driver and the drive from My Computer constantly dissapearing and reappearing) and i constantly get the "reformat drive" window (i had 20 at the same time at some point) and formatting is out of the question since i have 200Gb of sensitive data.

I know that the external drive works perfectly since i previously had it connected to another computer via eSATA (currently unavailable).

All USB ports are enabled and not blocked in any way, i considered a eSATA to USB converter but i do not know if it will solve the problem and i do not want aditional costs.

i tried it on 5 different computers a laptop and a laptop's docking station, curiously enough it works perfectly on the docking station (i need it to work on any computer, USB CONNECTION ONLY).

i know for certain that it is not a cable/ HW problem (broken pins, defective USB port on the external driver, etc).

Please help!

The fact that it worked over USB on 1 of 7 devices you tried it on means that most likely there's a problem with failing hardware or software on the RAID DAS itself. your best bet is to troubleshoot it with the manufacturer and RMA it if troubleshooting fails and then restore from backup.
