Sound Blaster Extigy. Had one loved it. Now what is out there that can replace it?

It seems from your PM that your needs are for music production.

Since that is the case, I would be looking at audio interfaces. Some of them even have Midi built in.

It's amazing what $150.00 or less can get you today. I have a $30 interface (Behringer) a $50 interface (also Behringer) and 2 Focusrite interfaces the Solo and 2i2.

Give them a look.

No, midi sound is now done through the use of VSTi's.

Virtual Studio Instruments are found in the DAW of your choice and free and paid ones can be downloaded.

No I don’t rely on computers for performance, esp not Windows which is a bunch of crappy sw.

Again, it seems you are out of touch with current systems. Windows PC's are used all the time for recording and performance. The software and hardware work well.

You are asking about a soundcard for a PC with Midi so you are relying on a PC for performance. While the best piece of hardware is the performer, I'm not sure what it is you want.
