External SSD Question?

I am going to buy and external SSD and I was wondering what else I will need minus the SSD itself and if I use it externally will the performance be any different than if I used it internally?

Potentially, if the means of connecting creates a bottleneck, like if you connect through a USB 2.0 port. USB 3.0 should have little to no bottlenecking.

You'll need to buy an external hard drive enclosure for it which plugs in to a USB port.

Performance will be slower than if it was fitted internally on account of USB data transfer being slower than SATA, unless you have USB 3.0 ports and use a USB 3.0 enclosure. USB 3.0 is not far behind SATA III (theoretically at least).
