Hello Everyone,

I just recently found an old 200GB Maxtor external hard drive. I believe it is a Maxtor OneTouch II 200GB USB 2.0 External Hard Drive: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822151025

I will be building a new computer soon, and I was looking to see if I can somehow take this apart and make it in internal drive. Unscrewing the backplate voids the warranty, but I don't think its good anymore anyway. Will I be able to do this?

Most consumer external hard drives are just an enclosure and adapter for an internal SATA or IDE/PATA hard drive, so chances are that you could remove the hard drive fro mthat enclosure and pop it into your system. I've done this with several of my older external hard drives.
