Hi,
My 5 TiB WD Passport was in an enclosure (that was for my 2 TiB Passport from like 10 years ago) from the start for like 1.5 years that yesterday I found out it causes Windows to lag.
Thing is if you want to use the file system like opening the drive and going through folders, it takes a lot of time, sometimes a couple of minutes, to respond but if you open a 1 GiB MKV file it opens instantly and you can jump to different parts of the movie instantly as well.
Or when I want to copy files from it, takes like a minute to add 30 files to it's list to copy, using TeraCopy, but after that it copies the files normally.
I opened WD's own software and it passed "Drive Status Check" (I suspect it being S.M.A.R.T.) and "Quick Drive Test". I didn't run the surface test as it stresses drive and I want to copy from the drive as much as I can first, which I'm not sure is a good idea.
Here is the CrystalDiskInfo's report: link
It was hot at 52 C (125 F) and I disconnected thinking it was maybe related to the enclosure somehow and after it cooled off, attached and reached the same temp out of it.
My hypothesis is that the drive has reached a lot of bad sectors, indicated by CPSP, and it is under a lot of load to move files around to prevent them getting damaged.
Thanks
