Hey guys me and a few of my friends had the idea of building an extreme cheap mini pc for Christmas just for the fun of it. However i've already run into a few problems and need some advice on my parts and if it's the best i can get for the money. My main objective would be to build the system with windows for under 400$ and less if possible. Oh yeah and we made a challenge where it must have dedicated graphics not integrated so no X4 processors etc...

Here is what we have so far:
-Cooler master elite 110 case (must be built in this case or extremely similar to size) = 39.99$
-gigabyte GA-H81M-H LGA1150 Motherboard= 40$
-Pentium G3240 dual core= 62$
-Radeon HD 7770= 70$
-4G Asus Ram= Free (have already)
-350 Watt Bronze+ powersupply= Free (Have already)
128-250gb ssd= 50-70$ or 1tb 7200 hdd = 60$
Windows?

The Problems:
1. cannot hold a disk drive incase so i thought about just using one to download windows then get rid of it?
2.Should i get an hdd windows bundle?
3. Are these the cheapest best parts?

Would really appreciate it if anyone could help
Thanks: Matt

Man are you going for all new parts or used parts?

I built a beast with $415 Aus dollars, which is even less for you cause your US

It was all used parts

i dont have that PC anymore, i sold it for more than i built it for ($800)

i had

i5 processor $100au

R9 290 GPU cost like $160au

8gb ram $15

PSU 750W $30

Harddrive $40

CD drive $10

Motherboard $40

Case $20

So yeah you can Build a beast, and in america you have way more options on sites like Craigslist.

No you dont need a CD drive, you can use a usb to install windows, go to you local pc shop and tell them u need windows on USB, but i dont know if they will give it to you for free to borrow, I already had windows 8 on usb ready to install.

HDD windows bundle, if its cheaper than getting them both separate then why not.

Thanks ptown gamer :). I'M really aiming for new parts font wanna risk any issues and lookin to make it last a while and be upgradeable for the future.

Skip the optical drive. You can install windows via usb. You should also check out Microcenter.com. If you have one close, they carry bundles with boards and chips. Right now for example you can get an fx 6300 and board for about 100 bucks. That would be better than that pentium imo. Yes the pentium might be faster single thread, but you can OC the fx 6300, and face it, it's got more cores, so as games become optimized for that it may hold out a hair longer.

A copy of Windows is usually about 100 bucks.

Also, at microcenter, usually you can get a WD blue 1tb drive for 40 bucks, so that's probably what you'd want to hold cost down. Lastly, consider for the card, going on ebay for used cards. I got a radeon 7950 that I've had about a year for 120 on there and it's been a wonderful card.

Edit * If you do look at used cards, check the sellers ratings. Like the guy I got mine from had nearly 100%, so in cases like that, they want to protect their feedback score.
