Extreme Internet Lag! Please help!

My internet is horrible, Currently. For the past 2 months the only reason I've been dying in my video games is because of internet lag. I only have 1 mbps upload and download and I don't have Ethernet in my room (I'm 14 so I still live with my parents) I keep telling my Dad about this problem but he just gets mad at me (He works with technology and he's a coder). My router is only about 10 meters (32 feet) away from my PC and they're both on the same floor and they have to pass through a wall. Please help! It makes me want to rip my hair out because of how hard I worked in my video games just to die from internet lag!

Look into a better wifi adapter, or maybe powerline adapters (even better).

Also look into the positioning of the router and your computer... the fewer obstacles the better, and not right up against walls. Also for the router, if it's higher off the ground, the better.

Also check your wireless channels... 2.4Ghz channels can get crowded depending on neighbors wireless networks. Use 5Ghz if you can.
