I just recently bought a brand new harddrive (Seagate ST1000DM010). I tried to download some games from Steam and the Disk Usage hardly exceeds 300 KB/s, mostly being 0 B/s.

HD Tune:

(It said i need to remove the partitions on the drive to run the test but I don't have any partition on the drive D.)

And here are my userbenchmarks:

http://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/2950464 (2nd)
http://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/2943916 (3rd)
It's performing way below expectations in all of them. (I think that dot in the last place is made for me)
The hard drive was fully empty in the first test and ~700GB full in the 2nd and 3rd one (all being Steam and movies nothing downloaded from internet sites)

Even folders and programs that are on drive D crash when opened.
I'm sure it's connected through SATA 3.
Should I just return it (which is really hard to do because I got it from internet) or is there a way to fix this?

Thank you.

From Seagate support download the SeaTools for Windows and run it on the drive to test it with their tool. If it fails they will RMA with no questions.

If it passes you may need to use another SATA port, or reinitialize and then reformat the drive.

A defective drive is a defective HARDWARE issue, not a 'somthing I can do to fix it click solution"
Normally if you go to BIOS / UEFI there is a Disk Hardware tool (so to eliminate issues with OS, Drivers, etc.) that you can run and test the drive. If it fails that way then you have a case for seeking support, unless this was 'used' then well buyer beware.

It passed the S.M.A.R.T. Check, are others important or should I just change the SATA port now?

I'll try it as soon as I can. If it fails I'll return it. Thank you!
