F Drive has disappeared from File Explorer

Hi all,

So after months of being absolutely fine, I booted my PC up this morning and my F Drive which has all my work files on has disappeared from File Explorer. It's definitely not a loose connection as the drive still shows up in Disk Management and BIOS.

The only thing I can think of is that the Drive Letter has somehow been unassigned as it isn't showing in Disk Management. However, the option to change it isn't available so wondering whether that is the issue.

Anyone else had a similar problem?

Solution
1. Have you PHYSICALLY examined your PC to determine the make/model of EVERY HDD/SSD that's internally-connected in the system? List the PRECISE make/models of those drives.

2. You're absolutely certain there are NO drives that are USB-connected in the system?

3. After shutting down the PC, ensure the 240 GB SSD boot drive is connected to the FIRST SATA port (SATA0 or SATA1). And the 1 TB HDD is connected to some other SATA port (connector) than its current SATA port. (I'm assuming there are only two drives internally-connected in the system.)

4. Does Device Manager report differently after the preceding?

5. And Disk Management?
1. First of all you have not made it clear whether your "F Drive" represents a partition on your boot drive or if it is a partition on a separate HDD or SSD.

2. If it's the partition on a separate storage (secondary) drive in your PC system the very first thing you should do is run a diagnostic program on the drive to determine its health; preferably a diagnostic program from the disk's manufacturer.

Apologies, it's a partition on a separate HDD. I've run a diagnostic and it hasn't come back showing any problems.

1. So the problem of the disappearing data from the secondary drive came "out-of-the-blue", right? One moment the drive performed without ANY problems, i.e., data could be accessed, written & read to, etc. The next moment all the data appears gone without a trace.

2. The drive is (apparently) listed in Device Manager and reflected in Disk Management, but without a drive letter assignment and the "Chage Drive Letter and Paths" option is absent or grayed out. Is all the preceding correct?

3. You've tried different SATA port(s)?

4. Can you connect drive as a USB external drive?

5. Any chance of connecting the drive in another PC?

6. Could you submit a screenshot of Disk Management, including the upper portion of DM that shows details of the connected drives?

All the above is correct. Haven't been able to try it with another PC but have attached screenshots from Disk Management (Disk 0) and Device Manager. I noticed that it doesn't show in Device Manager although the drive highlighted in the screenshot shows up... a drive that isn't even in the PC :/
