Hey there,

about half a year ago i bought the components for a new system. I checked every possible compability before buying the parts. I went to the local store and picked everything. But the RAM (F4-3200C16D-32GTZRX (X=AMD version)) i planned to buy was not available. So i asked the pc-hardware-guy if he knows which smiliar RAM i can use instead. So he said the F4-3200C16D-32GTZR (non X). I talked to him for at least an hour before about the other parts i picked and he knew so much about every component, that i trusted his choice without even thinking about.

I built a ton of PCs before, so the building-part ended successfully without any problems as expected. The system ran absolutely smooth and everything felt good. (I usually don´t really check any Benchmarking-Scores. I only let the system run at full load for some time to check the temps). Everything went fine. At this point i really forgot about the RAM and XMP. So not checking this part right about then was a dumb fail. About 2 weeks ago i watched some LinusTechTips-Videos about XMP-Technology and randomly looked in my settings and saw that my XMP was disabled and the RAM ran at 2133 mhz. After endless trial and error i have to consider that i am not able to run my RAM at the rated speed.

What i have done already (checked most of the things twice):
• Checked if the two sticks are in the correct slots like the manual says.
• Updated the BIOS to F12h.
• Enabled the XMP Profile
• Checked if the RAM is in the compability-List of the Mainboard for Matisse-CPUs (Basically it is, but only the version with 4 Sticks (Q=Quad; D=Dual) [F4-3200C16Q-32GTZR ]. But the "AMD" Version of the RAM is not in the list! Don´t know why the AMD-specific version ist not listed but the non-AMD is?
• I know the fact, that dependig on the software, the displayed RAM speed is divided by 2.

What i have not done yet:
• Changed any settings like voltage/timings/etc. manually. But i don´t really want to do that.
• Used different RAM / CPU / Mainboard. I have only the parts in the list above (or other incompatible parts).

Has anyone tested the AMD-Version of the RAM F4-3200C16D-32GTZRX with this Mainboard? Is it working properly?

And does anyone know if it is possible to run the non-AMD Version with XMP?

Thanks!

@egda23 Exactly, thats what i have seen too. Maybe that means it is basically compatible but the "extra feature" XMP is not. That whole compability thing is not as trivial as it seems to be 😀

I don't think so. Gskill, on their site gives the compatibility at the highest speed possible on the MoBo, thus it SHOULD work with XMP at 3200 Mhz. But I agree that the mere existence of an X version is puzzling.I would go to the Gskill forum on their site and ask them directly, or send an E-mail
