Never use a smartphone for sports photography.

The goal of sports photography when you reach the pro level, is to freeze the action and isolate the subjects using a shallow depth of field. None of this is possible on a smartphone.

stadiums are not the best environment for a small aperture, there is a lot going on, and almost any angle that is at the level of the action will have many people in view who do not add to the story and emotion the photographer is trying to show by taking the photo.

A smartphone will never get the shutter speeds needed to freeze the action, the photos will simply look generic as there will be too much background noise happening which will distract from the focus.

Smartphone photography generally only works when it comes to environment where a small aperture would be used regardless.
