I have a hard drive that has a copy of windows 7 that I'm going to upgrade to windows 10. The hard drive originally came with a pc that had windows xp. I'm going to put the drive into a new pc and move the os to a new hard drive in the pc. I want to upgrade to windows 10 then clear it so it would be like a new pc with windows 10. How should I do this? Will factory resetting put it back to windows xp?

Solution
If its a retail copy of 7 then all you'll need to do is do a clean install of 10 and put in the win 7 product key. If its OEM and has previously been installed on another machine you will need Microsofts permission to legally move it to another system since OEM versions are tied to the first motherboard they are installed on.
