Factory testing Intel CPUs?

So my i7 7700k just came in yesterday from Amazon. The box was sealed and in good condition. However, when I look at the surface of the IHS it looks as though there is a faint square shaped 'smudge' (not sure of a better word) that I can see. The batch number on the CPU and the box matches.

Is it possible this one was tested in the factory and just not cleaned all the way when they sealed it up? Is it likely that Amazon would send me an opened item as new? Could Amazon have been tricked into thinking the box was never opened if someone was careful about not tearing the sticker seal on the box?

I haven't installed it into my z270 motherboard yet. Is it worth trying out before I return it to Amazon or should I send it back right away?

guess its possible in the factory they might quality control test a cpu

though would they then stick it into retail packaging?

no idea

its from amazon so reputable seller

the number on cpu and box matches and seals intact

personally i would use it
