Failed GPU Chokes

A while back I created a thread regarding my GPU failing in my MSI laptop. Well, recently I had an acquaintance more hardware-savvy than I take a look at it, and he diagnosed my GPU, stating that he believes that the chokes have failed, and as a result the GPU fails to boost.
So, I was wondering if there is any possible way to fix these chokes. A new GPU for my laptop is prohibitively expensive, so any solution would be great.

Err, not exactly. Choke is another name for an inductor. They're part of the voltage regulation module (VRM) circuitry. I thought chokes were generally pretty resilient, would have thought the capacitors or maybe FETs would fail first. If a choke failed to an open circuit, that would effectively disable one of your power phases, reducing the power that can be delivered to the card, which I guess could reduce the GPU's ability to boost. If it failed to a short, I'm pretty sure your GPU wouldn't work at all.

How much confidence do you have in your acquaintance's technical knowledge?

To be honest, I don't have too much confidence in his tech prowess; the explanation that he gave me seemed to jive with the symptoms that I was seeing with the GPU.
Just out of curiosity, would it be helpful to describe the issues I am seeing with the card? If I can, I can try to post whatever log documentation. Anything I can provide to help diagnose with some certainty whatever ails my GPU.

Yeah, that could help. Also, are you able to post pictures of what your friend saw that made him think a choke had failed?
I didn't see your old thread, is this an issue that only started happening after you'd had the laptop for a while? I assume you've looked at GPU temperatures to make sure it's not throttling? Does it occur when you're plugged in and running off AC power?
