I have a new SSD and want to use it replace my failed HDD that only spins and clicks, I cannot even get to the Bios set up with F2.

Solution
Hi there graywolf1939,

Try using different SATA and power cables. You can attach the HDD to a different port as well. If the clicking persists though, you will not be able to access the drive with software tool as it most probably has some mechanical flaw.

F2 is the correct key for my Intel MB. I can hear the HDD clicking repeatedly at a frequency of approx. 1 second. I have not tried a rescue disk, the clicking sound is a dead giveaway that the HDD has a serious mechanical failure. I want to replace this drive with my new Intel SDD, but I also want to try to get some of the files off the drive. I do have files backed up on ext. drive, so I should be OK

Graywolf: As a last resort you can try the ziplock bag and freezer trick. Risky and I doubt that WD & Co. will endorse that approach.

May be worth the attempt- probably nothing to lose at least. Especially if you only need to get few files from the drive....
