Hi,

I know this might be one of the topics that are posted over and over again, but
I searched the web and didn't find any satisfying answer.

I want to install UT2004 on Linux and have the problem, that either on CD2 or
CD4 the installation process fails with the message that he failed to fully
write a file.

The weird thing is, that I have already installed ut2004 on my System a few
months ago.

I tried to install it on different partitions (maybe a block is corrupt) with
GUI, without GUI, as root, as User, on root-partition, nothing helped.

Do you have any suggestions?

Are you 100% sure you can read the disks? Is there enough space?

There are hundreds of Linux distributions, and loads of different
kernels and setups. Why don't you tell us what system you have?

I have enough space (25 Gigs on root partition and 13 on Data)
I'm pretty sure I can read the disks. They are original, not scratched, I care
for my self-buyed disks :)
Kanotix[1] BugHunter8 Debian GNU/Linux; Kernel 2.6.8.1

But I have already installed the game on that system, that's the big thing that
confuses be

Never, ever 'be pretty sure'. Test it! Go on and copy those disks to a
temporary location on your harddisk!

Well, did you HD-install it? You need to give us more information! Why
do you think you can 'be pretty sure' about things you haven't tested?
Why do you think you can be minimal in your information?

Alright

Of course I installed it, what do you think. I'm not running a live CD for sure...

With "pretty sure" I meant that I installed it on /exactly/ the same system
except that the Kernel was 2.6.8(.0) when i had it running, but I'm _sure_ that
*this* doesn't make any difference

Because no more information is needed in my opinion

I think you need to give us more information. I don't guess.

Well, if your opinion is so well-formed, why don't you solve your
problem yourself?

No need do be offended

I just _thought_ that there is no need for more information
I'm not a *complete* PC-n00b and I couldn't imagine what more information is
needed except the platform, rights, free space and even the Kernel.

Sorry if I offended you

it works!

I can read every CD, but it fails to install anyway

So I made images of every CD and then installed it and: IT WORKED!

dd if=/dev/cdrom of=CD1.iso
dd if=/dev/cdrom of=CD2.iso
dd if=/dev/cdrom of=CD3.iso
dd if=/dev/cdrom of=CD4.iso
dd if=/dev/cdrom of=CD5.iso

mount -o loop CD1.iso /mnt/cdrom
2nd console# sh /mnt/cdrom/linux-installer.sh
mount -o loop CD2.iso /mnt/cdrom
mount -o loop CD3.iso /mnt/cdrom
mount -o loop CD4.iso /mnt/cdrom
mount -o loop CD5.iso /mnt/cdrom

It works! Thanks for the hint!
