Failing HDD and SSD Question

Is it possible for the HDD that has Windows installed on it to be causing hickups in games that are installed on a separate SSD?

Yes, if you have a failing HDD drive that holds the operating system the performance of any process being run off that drive (the game) will suffer.

If you suspect your HDD is failing backup any important data from it ASAP and run a disk diagnostic tool like Crystal Disk Info to check the drive's health:

You really want windows to be on ta ssd. There are many functions such as catalog searches, logging, and other things that will go on the hard drive which is very slow.

Consider the source, but Samsung suggests that a ssd can actually help with fps and stuttering:

The source, is it saying that games should be installed on the SSD or that both Windows AND the games should be installed to see any sort of performance increase?

My take is that if you have a ssd, that is where windows should be installed. Games are not slowed down much by being installed on a hard drive.

If the contents of your windows "C" hard drive will fit on a ssd, you can clone it to the new ssd. Samsung has a very good migration utility for their drives.

I'll look into that and/or getting another SSD and just keep personal files on the HDD
