I wasn't sure if this was the correct forum to ask for this kind of help, so if it isn't just delete/move the post, thank you.

None of my devices can see/connect to the NAS

I set up a NAS4Free computer, added the storage disk, set the mount point, turned on SMB/CIFS and set the share. I then set it to a static IP, and opened the ports (probably wasn't necessary at all, but I was trying to fix it myself and thought, why not?) On "Allow Hosts" I set "ALL, 127.0.0.1"
as well as enabled guests.

On the win8 PC I have the homegroup settings as open as I thought possible, and the workgroup name matches the server's settings. I've also changed one or two settings under local policy in administrative tools to allow sending LM & NTLM responses and to disable microsoft signing unless requested I believe?

I also cannot see or connect to the server on a win7 PC, a linux mint, and an android tablet. I can however ping it just fine, as well access the web gui.

The share name on the server is Kris, and the path set for it is /mnt/share/Kris

I've been trying to connect to the server by \\192.168.1.124\Kris as well as almost any other folder/path combination past \\192.168.1.124\ that of course being the static ip set

You gotta make sure that all the I's are dotted and the T's crossed or nothing will work. If you haven't already checked out http://www.samba.org/ it would behoove you to do so. Here's the config page: http://www.samba.org/samba/docs/using_samba/ch06.html

By the way, SWAT has been deprecated by the samba team (can't be secured). Manually editing the config file/s is the way going forward.
