Hey guys,

So a long time ago I tried to install a bunch of Windows update at once and then I got the error. Now every time I boot my computer, I get the message but my computer is still able to work and I can log into my desktop.

The error goes something like this.
"Windows is configuring windows please don't turn off computer"
"Windows is configuring windows '67%'
Shuts down
"Windows is configuring windows"
"Failure configuring windows. Reverting changes"

I need to update my windows in order to get C++ 2015 to install properly but because of this install that keeps on failing I keep getting the windows update message telling me to restart my computer to install important updates but once I do install it the same message comes up.

I have tried the "Fix It" tool, stopping Windows update service while changing the Software Distribution name, uninstalling the most recent windows update but it wont allow me to do so, and installing the standalone windows update but get prompted with the error "This update is not applicable to this computer"

I am using Windows 7 Home Premium. I thought that my auto windows update was turned off. When I go to change settings I have it listed as "Check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them. I'm also getting error code 0x80070bc9 if that helps with anything.

I've had this problems for a really really really long time. Everytime I reinstalled Windows, I managed to update again, but just once.

Then I realised what the only change I had done to the OS was. I had change the default installation folder to D:\ instead if C:\

Here's a guide on how to do that: http://www.thewindowsclub.com/change-default-program-files-directory-windows

Yesterday I changed it back, just to check, and when I restarted my computer it updates successfully.
