Hello, I am just turning my computer on for the first time in quite a while (months), and I noticed a very faint buzzing coming from the computer. I stuck my head around the back and figured that it was coming from the power supply. It's an HX 850. Do you have idea what this might mean?
It would be helpful to know that I have experienced this with the last power supply, so I RMAed it. The old one only started making electrical buzzing noises during stressful moments when the components required more power. With the new one, I can hear it constantly. Could the problem reside in the outlet that I'm getting power from? I wouldn't think so because I'm using a surge protector.

Yeah, I can deal with the noise.
But I thought coil whine was a high pitched squeal, not an electrical buzzing? Or can it be both?

You could try powering down the system, turn off the PSU, get rid of static and ground every component, reattach all cables, and then turning it on again.

Also to stress test your CPU/GPU to flesh out any power draw/instability issues that might bite you later.

Well, I can almost assure you it's not the CPU/GPU, they've been perfectly stable for the few years I've had them. I always seem to have bad luck with PSUs, though. I'm going to chalk this noise up to coil while, after watching this video as reassurance.

It sounds pretty much like that (turn volume up).
Perhaps coil whine in a PSU sounds different than coil whine in a GPU, which I've heard to be high pitched.
Thanks for your help, though.
