So this may well be a very stupid question... But I was really curious and by browsing a bit I could not find anything.
The reason why I ask this is because there is online an individual near me who sells his gigabyte 980ti extreme gaming. He says used it for gaming for 6 months only, tells me he has the warranty still but it is the price that throws me of...

He sells it for 180 euros!!!!! A gigabyte 980ti extreme gaming!!! So is this maybe a fake card?
If so how can it be checked?

Thank you for your reply. :)

If he lives near ask if he is willing to show you it working and if he has proof of purchase which may be needed for the warranty to be valid. A tool like GPU-Z will tell you if it is a 980Ti and if he runs a benchmark in front of you it proves it works.

If he won't do the above I'd suspect its stolen

Well fake cards do exist. But gpu z can always tell the truth even if they try to 'fake' the card. For example active shader count or bandwidth available did not match with nvidia official spec. Even in this forum I've seen few people talking about it during Kepler generation. I think that's why nvidia beefing up their firmware security with Maxwell. Though some open source people did not like the moves because doing so will make the hardware "less open" according to them.

So even GPUZ could not help to check?
