Have you made sure your BIOS is up to date? According to Acer's support page, Notebook>Aspire>Aspire ES1-512, you have a BIOS update available for download with version 1.15 dated 13th August 2015. As per your maximum memory capacity you can find them here.

If what you're saying is seeing half the available ram installed,
1| Are you running on a 64bit architecture of Windows 8.1?
2| Have you tried reinstalling your OS?
3| Tried a repair install?
