Hello everyone

I have a problem that I really some need help with. I have tried everything I could think of but it still doesn't work. So to begin with I will post my compspec:

Nvidia Ge force 8800 GTS 512mb
4 GB ram
Intel Quad Core Q6600 2.4ghz
1,5 TB hard disk space

A description of my problem will follow:
Everything works great in the beginning, the program starts and I will get to the main menu. But when I try to load a saved game I will get to the loading screen and right when I get there the program crashes and I get a message that says: "Fallout 3 has stopped working. Windows is looking for a solution".
So the problem begins when I try to load a saved game. Have tried other saves too. Apparently I have played the game before and on the very same machine and it has worked flawlessly until one day. I have also tried to reinstall it several times and try to patch it to 1.7, but nothing helps. And i have to add that I have some expansion packs that has worked nice. Those are: Point lookout, Broken Steel and The pitt.

I'm begging you for help. =) This is a great game and I really want it to work. So any help that will make it work I would be very, very thankful for!

When I am currently loading. It crashes when I get to the loading screen. And its strange that I have been able to play before with no complications.

Yeah I have. And when I had reinstalled it about two times it worked for a while. Then there was the same problem. I thought it was the expansion packs that didn't run properly but the problem remained even when I only had the original game installed.

I have encountered this problem many times with FO3; I'm playing again before Fallout: New Vegas comes out.

I've gotten around this issue several times by loading a previous save form several hours or days ago. After that saved game has been loaded, I load the most recent saved gamed. That works most of the time for me.

I it does not work for you then you will need to go back to a saved game that does not crashes FO3 and start there again.

I recommend saving somewhat frequently. Use the command console by pressing the "`" key to the right of the "1" key. Then type the following with the quotes for your saved game name:

Save "Saved game name"

My apologies for sounding rude, but honestly, that's a totally and completely unrelated and useless bit of advice that you've given us right there, especially since the guy stated that he can't load the game to begin with, thus precluding access to the console. It's not the savegame itself, it's something related to a program reacting with the hardware.

I got this exact same problem today. The game stopped being able to load savegames or start up a new game after I turned my laptop off, disconnected everything, and reconnected everything after a short dusting of the external monitor and keyboard.

Obviously, something went wrong with some settings somewhere that involve video rendering, but I don't have enough technical skill to diagnose and determine the cause.

Anyone have any knowledge about diagnostic tools that may be able to help?

I know this is old but I absolutely have a fix (sorry didn't read through all the posts so if this has been addressed, I apologize). The fix is VERY simple, but for sake of not being dismissed, I will go through the background. Specs of my machine are similar with the exception of a much better video card. Win 7 64 bit. Had tried EVERY suggestion on the entire internet (literally probably 100hrs into fixes to include ffdshow fix, multi-core ini fix, unistall/reinstall, drivers (chipset, video, etc etc etc) every single windows live BS haxor fix under the sun, renaming exe's, shortcut workarounds for launcher and exe,......you name it, ive tried it.

NOW FOR THE FIX: (have tested this on 3 different instances (friends with the same issue and its worked EVERY time). I know this sounds ridiculous but here we go.........

1. open the launcher (falloutlauncher.exe)
2. set resolution to your optimal resolution and CHECK run in windowed mode
3. Launch game......settings.....controls.....action mapping.....RESET TO DEFAULT.....close game
4. open launcher again
5. uncheck windowed mode
6. launch game.....re-do your keybinds....

ENJOY!!!!!!

hope this helps!!!!
