Hello, there are probably a good few posts about this on here but I'm in a rush and just need to get it out there before I forget.

Can anyone help me pick a card that would be good enough to run Fallout 4 (and future games) on?

I was thinking GTX970 but I really have no idea about much computer stuff nowadays.

I'm in dire need of an upgrade. I'm using an AMD 6870 right now. I have a MoBo that can run 2 GPUS but would a Nvidia work in tandem with a AMD or do I need them to be both the same company?

Thanks!

Iamsoda,

I need to correct you, i did not say "the extra vram is great" i said "it has more vram" i'm sticking to the facts to help the OP make an informed decision.

If you wish to debate this i believe that 99.9% of the community would agree that having surplus vram is better than having not enough for the same price.
To add icing to the cake running into the 3.5GB vram "issue" the 970 has in the future is a possible scenario. The reality is the 390 out performs the 970 for the same price point.

As a previous owner of 2 x 970's they are good solid cards, just slightly outperformed by AMD 390.

For the last question, currently they need to be the same company to run together. As for a new card, a 970 would be a great choice (EVGA or MSI). The 970 should be good to run games on high-ultra with great frames for a while to come still. If you had the money, a 980ti would probably last you longer, but a 970 is more than enough.

And more heat and don't forget to spend extra money on a bigger PSU. Money saved = 0.

I need a new PSU as it is so wouldn't be too bad IMO.

Heat is negligible at +3 degrees vs the 970.

For the r9 390 it is recommended you have 650w PSU
For the GTX 970 it's recommended you have 500w PSU

And you mention that extra vram is great, but that is mostly useful in SLI and on those PSU's you won't be doing a SLI.

Hey thanks a lot! I've been convinced to consider the 390.

At least then, I can use 2 cards on my system!

Kinda' silly question, but do you know the cheapest place to get one from?

It's weird. GTX970 is cheaper in the UK but there's no way I'm gonna look back now.

Thanks man!

Gonna' go PSU browsing now. Much appreciated :D

They are more or less the same price - depending on brand. Google each video card part number to find a review online.
