Hey guys, quick question here,

The recommended specs for fallout 4 list a i7 4790 as a CPU.

I currently run a I7 4770K (Not overclocked, atleast not atm)
EVGA 980TI 6B SC+ ACX 2.0
Corsair Dominator Platinum 1866 DDR3.

Do you think this will run at 60FPS at 2560x1440 resolution or will it be bottlenecked by the CPU?

Thanks in advance,

Rick

Yes I know what the recommended specs are, I just need to know whether the gap between the i7 4770K and the i7 4790 is noticeable when it comes to playing this game at 2K. (With a 980ti and 16 GB of 1866 Mhz RAM)

Most likely the recommended specs are inaccurate. That's usually the case.

But even if it is accurate, and it's not quite enough for a solid 60 FPS, you can just overclock your 4770K to get exactly the same performance as a 4790 offers - or even more.

I tried overclocking it, first manually and after with the EZ wizard (Maximus VII Ranger MB)

However it keeps crashing my games giving me a WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR bluescreen. Not fun.

Automatic overclocking is bad. Manual, it should be possible to get at least another few hundred MHz.

Anyway, the difference between a stock 4770K and a 4790 is tiny. 3.5-3.9 GHz vs. 3.6-4.0 GHz.

You will have no issue running it at 1440p and I would assume at 60FPS. The 4770 is no slouch and will likely be very usable for another generation or 2 of CPUs/Games. As for the 980Ti, it'll have no problems at 1440p.
