Hi everyone. Recently I got a new build and I am still thinking about one question. I have a nice chasis : Thermaltake v71, which already had 3 200mm and 1 140mm fan built in. But if the 140 one connects to the MB, all of the 200 ones connect to Thermaltake controller, which now allows me to manually switch those coolers between low and high speeds. This is nice and stuff, but I am a little bit confused about the fact, that my MB doesn,t have control over all airflow inside the chasis, and since it's Maximus VIII Ex, it could controll all of them with a descent effectiveness.
So the question is : Should I reconnect the coolers to the MB ? And if yes, Is there a way to keep the controller working?
the fans are connected via a 3 pin header to your cases' fan controller PCB which is powered by a molex connector so in essence you can remove the fan connectors from the controller PCB and have each of your fans connect to the motherboards 3/4 pin fan headers. The sad point is that the controller doesn't connect to a motherboard physically and rewiring them would be a hassle. You could look towards a PWM splitter like one offered by Swiftech that also works fine with 3 pinned fans and hook all your fans up to it and then have the hub connected to the CPU fan header or pretty much any header and have a profile setup for it...
If you do decide to go with connecting the fans to your motherboard as is, then have each fan to an individual fan header, the front fans seemingly have a splitter to hook two of the 200mm fans so I'd advise against having two fans on one header when drawing power from fan header itself.
