Fan is Making Funny Noises

Hey guys!

So I recently installed a Radeon R9 270x in my computer and almost everything has been running smoothly. The voltage levels are constant and the temperature stays exactly where I want it but an odd quirk happened to me the other day. Keep in mind I can run titanfall on max settings without any issues. However, when I open up Rome Total War II either the cpu or gpu fan starts making a squalling noise. Pretty sure it's the cpu fan because I played with the gpu fan speed and it didn't seem to affect the noise that much. Why would it only be on this one game where gpu and cpu load are irrelevant? I even put it on low settings just to eliminate that factor even though it handles titanfall on max.

Any ideas or comments on this would be hugely appreciated.

Thanks Guys!

An Ivybridge Intel Core i3-3240 and I have been doing this and have observed absolutely no abnormal changes. I've launched more taxing games and the changes experienced by launching Rome are much less significant. I've also ran some stress tests on my system none of which have I ever experienced the fan noise. I am completely stumped on this one.

You hit the nail on the head with that one! I turned Vsync on and it went away immediately. If you don't mind what exactly is the cause and reason behind Vsync being the issue?

Coil whine is caused by the inductors (and sometimes other components) slightly physically moving in response to current flow changes.
Every time the GPU does a new frame, it requires a large pulse of current. And when you are pushing frames at hundreds of thousands per second,
it is in the prime range for human hearing. If you restrict the framerate down, the coils aren't likely to reproduce low frequency sounds
and your ears are less sensitive to sounds below 200hz
