I have a fan that uses power for the fan and the LED on the same cable. If I plug the fan into one of the system fan headers on the mobo then the LED will flashing when booting and then stay off. If I plug the fan into one of the connectors on the PSU then it works fine. Only problem is that way I can't monitor the speed. Is there a way to get the LEDs on while connecting to the mobo?

I have a Gigabyte b365m

Solution
Sounds like your fans are running too slow (MB controlled) so LEDs don't have enough juice to light very bright.
You can adjust the minimum speed, you can set the fan curve or leave them plugged in at full speed.
