Fan minimum speed 0 rpm?

Hi:

I noticed that one of my fan's minimum speed was 0 after my computer has been running a while (I usually keep hwmonitor on)

just wonder if that is normal, or does that mean there was error with my fan?

How is fan connected ? If plugged into PSU, MoBo will not read.

If we talking CPU fan, better look inside

Check the fan, make sure nothing is obstructing the fan itself. Sometimes, a stray wire decides to get caught. (... I am assuming you fan does not move at all?)

If no object is stopping it, check any software (or the BIOS) for any setting that may be controlling the fan. Controllers that are geared more for 3-Pin fans will control the RPM via the voltage, and can be set to stop feeding that fan energy if it believes it does not need it. I believe newer generations of higher-end Asus motherboards have this built-in with their AI Suite, so it is easy to set-up and forget about. I'm not exactly sure about other brands, but Biostar has something similar; you'd remember if you set it up though. Otherwise, you'd need a third-party program, such as Speedfan.

If neither of these are the case, then your fan has given out, and it's time to replace it. 🙁

they are all corsair

and no, what i mean is that one of the fan went 0 for a bit (im not sure about the exact duration, i can't see it happening (everytime i read hwmonitor it is running at 1100 - 1200 rpm). which is why the minimum rpm value read 0 on my hwmonitor



i checked the connections , i have 4 things that are hooked up to the mobo, the pump and fan of my liquid cooler, and 2 case fans.

unfortunately i cannot tell which one is which since the mobo label doesn't match the hwmonitors.


and i do not remember messing with any fan settings, all fans were bought a year ago so it would be strange that they are done for after such a short period.



edited: I just checked, and one of the other fan experienced the same thing, this time i saw it happen and it stayed at 0 for like one second(or less) and went back up to 800/1200

If it was just one fan, I would ask if it is plugged into the "PWR_FAN" header, because that can cause weird readings. But, with two fans, I doubt that is the case. I had a friend who did that, and his fan speed readings would jump between 1000 and 675,000.

Unless you can catch one of these fans "acting up", I would chalk it up to just weird RPM readings. Try downloading Speedfan, it too logs read-outs. If it gives you the same results, but the fans are still running properly, then you know it's not just a software issue. How to fix it from there, I do not know, but keep a close eye; it might just be a minor inconvenience in the long run.

ya, I mean i think it is something about the fan thought because as i said, i have 4 fan readings from hwmonitor.

2 of them are 1200 rpm average, 1 of them 800 rpm, another one is 4000 (which i assume is the fan or pump of the liquid cooler).

and the 4000 one and another 1200 are not experiencing this problem, only the 800 and a 1200 rpm fan. nothing is happening to computer, not lag or buzz (except when using antivirus scan , addressed in another one of my thread), and the temperatures of gpu , cpu and mobo are normal, so like you said i think im just gonna keep an close eye on it.

The Corsair Air series (SP120 or AF120) strike me as fairly robust design, and I always hear good things about them, so it'd be interesting to see what problems they might have, if any. When you first posted, I had assumed that it might be a case of a fan with a sleeve-bearing that got gunked up or died, but Corsair fans have a modified rifled-sleeve type of bearing that is higher quality and more resilient.

im tired and probably not going to do this tonight, but tomorrow im going to try observing the fan and see if it momentarily stops
