Hi,
I have been thinking about changing my Case fans as well as Rad (water cooled cpu) fans for something more effective and quiet.
Now, since last time i bought something before thinking it enought i ended up with a Kandalf LCS instead of some custom water cooling with better case, this time i spent some days looking around and reading reviews and round ups of 120MM fans.
My current problem is the information varies a lot and im not quite sure "who" to trust on this one.
From one side The testing methods are diffrent on each site, and from another their readings go totally oposite sometimes.
I understand that since the testing method is diffrent, the result will be diffrent, but it should however have some sense.
By this i mean, according to PC Custom, using the "Black Bag" testing method ( for those who dont know its to see how long it takes for a fan to fill a Bag with certain Cubit feet, and then mathematicly calculate the CFM), some quite known and decent fans were a total fail (like Noctua for example). Now while i do belive this could be posible do to 2 less pressure from the fan,
It dosent make any sense that another site using a similar test method: fan atached to a bottle, and on the other side an anemometer with a fan, would get same CFMs from 2 fans years apart in the PC Custom test.
While the resistance will be significantly lower in the second case, it does need to travel throu the bottle (190MM), so resistance is also a factor here and yet the results vary a lot. My problem is, since you cant trust the Companies that manufacture these fans with the specifications, and the information on round ups and reviews is somehow doubtfull, what can you do apart of testing them all yourself?.
Now im looking for practicly totally silent Fans that would have "decent" CFM.
The options i was taking into consideration are:
Sharkoon Silent eagle 1000 (36 CFM/20,7dB) According to PC custom (Black bag/50 CM distance for audio test)
Scythe Gentle Typhoon (61CFM/28,6dB/30CFM with Rad) according to PC custom (same method)
Scythe Gentle Typhoon (34 CFM with Rad/62 dB at 1/2" distance) according to Madshrips
Tacens Ventus Pro (65CFM/36dB at 1 meter) according to HardexHaust.es (spanish)
NoiseBlocker NB-Multiframe MF12-S1 (cant give accurate reading cus site giving diffrent info on max possible RPMs).
Scythe S-Flex (101CFM/41.3 dB) according to PC custom
Scythe S-Flex (28 CFM/36.4 dB) according to Xbitlabs (190MM bottle for CFm test and 350MM for acoustic)

http://www.hardexhaust.es/reviews/ventilador1.html
As you can see some of those infos are a bit hard to add up at all.
Is there anyone who knows enought about this to give me either some aditional information or some explanation why these numbers differ so "unlogicaly" sometimes (One thing is that 62 dB at 1/2" and 28,6 dB at 500MM makes sence, but 41.3 dB at 500MM and 36.4 db at 350MM makes no sence at all i think, unless PC Custom got a cracked Fan)
Oh and plz, dont tell me things like Go for Noctua or Naoxia or Nexus etc, i want a good fan taht will be basicly silent, and those seem to be my best options, but i need some information from ppl who actually have those fans or might know something im missing.
So far the Gentle Typhoon seems to be the best option, but i cant get it where i live as far as i know.
Any ideas what could be better from the rest?.
