Hi, I got this card: 5850 Xtreme and I want to know if putting the fan stucked at 65% will remove lifetime or destroy my card... I've doing this since a year ago everytime I format the pc to keep the temps in 33º idle/58º playing games...
well the bearing on the fan will wear out quicker if it is running at high rpms constantly, the gpu and other parts that stay cooler will last longer however. If and when the fan eventually fails you can relatively easily mod another fan on the heatsink to cool the card so it isn't as bad a situation as the chip cooking itself.
Life span of fans is dependent on a lot of other factors as well but if you live in a hot and nasty climate you will eventually need to upgrade the cooler anyway. Filth from smoking does the most hard for fans than just heavy use than anything else.
