Fan starts during setup but quits

😱 I purchased a used Toshiba Satellite L505D-es5025 today, and noticed within minutes of using it that it was overheating. SpeedFan indicates Temp1 and Core are WAY too high (flame next to them); HDD was too high earlier, but it normal now. I notice the fan starts during start up, then stops, and I NEVER hear it come on again. I have used duster to clean any debris I can, but have not taken apart to clean more in depth. Any suggestions?

I would exchange the laptop for a working model.

was afraid you'd say that, but I purchased from an individual so there is no "exchange" policy....grrrr

Disassembly and thorough cleaning would seem to be in order here - may also be that the fan needs replacing but a cleaning should let you know. This video shows what is involved in disassembling your computer (not the easiest, but far from the most complicated I've seen) to clean the HSF http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G2AcFvd9qjc
