Fan starts then stops

Hi

I have added a new fan from an old OptiPlex gx270 to an old compaq computer that has been working but after about an hour gets hot inside the case. the fan is 2pin and fits perfectly into the MB.

The fan start when the BIOS does but then it stops the rest of the computer is unaffected except for the fact that it get's warm in about an hour. No overheating issues i just prefer running the computer at lower than 45'C.

I got an old dell OptiPlex from a friend and he said it didn't work anymore so i took it and realized that the capacitors were blown on the MB so i used it for parts. Added a 1gb ddr ram and left it for about year then i started to play around again and decided hey there's an extra fan with rubber mounting screws. 2 of ripped partially (still works) and 1 broke completely due to being 11 years old. plugged it in and here's where i am now

System Specs:

MB: A7VBX-LA ( has both ASUS and VIA labels)
Ram : 33MHZ DDR 1Gb Kingston, 512MB samsung
psu: Bestec 250W
CPU: sempron 3000+

Fan (newly Added) MNB 12V MODEL: 3612KL-04W-B66

Try an adapter that plugs the fan directly in to a power supply molex connector

why do you think that the extra fan port on the motherboard doesn't work???

They might work , and maybe the fan is faulty .

Using a molex to power it will tell you more , or maybe just get the fan running
