Hi All:

I have a Dell Optiplex 755. Replaced the old E4500 with a new CPU - the E8400. Runs much faster (Super PI - about 30 - 35% better).

HOWEVER, now the fan is stuck at super speed - sounds like a freight train. Dell says there are not any settings to slow it down. From what I can tell, the E8400 is supposed to run cooler than the older CPU.

Checked BIOS - and there are no settings affecting the fan speed.

Anyone know any way to get the fan to slow down?

THANKS for any help or suggestions!

I don't have precise temps.

I did clean of existing stuff & added new.

I did not update BIOS.

The PC is in use right now - I'll try a bios update after hours and see if it helps.

THANKS

This thread is listed as solved and yet the solution is not listed. We are having the same problem. We've replaced the fan, cleaned the CPU and reapplied compound, blown out any minor dust. :pt1cable:

The only thing we have not done is update the BIOS. It would help us to know if that fixed the problem or what the resolution was.

Thank you. :)
