Hello, upon startup often the fan spins extremely fast until I can smell burning. Then I have to turn off the computer and restart. This problem only occurs sometimes, other times the computer starts normally. Thank you for any ideas.
I would suspect that you have a fan (CPU or GPU) that doesn't have good thermal transfer (i.e. thermal compound needs to be replaced) - The first thing I would check is the fan that is making that noise to determine which one to replace. I would not wait - the burning smell is your GPU or CPU burning up.....

Where is the Fan connected? Assuming it's connected the mobo, check the connection, that none of the pins are shorting out, and note the name of the connection on the mobo. Go into power/hardware/fan options in the BIOS or UEFI and see if you can adjust the settings for that specific fan there.
