Hi, I just built a computer. My original build was http://pcpartpicker.com/p/3JhzF
I built the thing, pressed the power button, and nothing happened. Tried again, and a burnt smell came from the CPU AV 4 pin connector, and smoke came out. I tried the paper clip test and the PSU failed, so I bought a new one.http://www.bestbuy.com/site/evga-600b-600w-active-pfc-power-supply-black/2427003.p?id=1219072713094&skuId=2427003&st=evga%20600w&cp=1&lp=1
Now, the PSU seems to be fine as the fans spin up, the DVD Drive works, and the CPU fan works. The LED light on the power button also works. The GPU fan spins as well. However, there is no video signal, and no beeping from the motherboard at all. I've done all of these steps http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/261145-31-perform-steps-posting-post-boot-video-problems. I've tried removing the GPU and going with the onboard video and nothing changed. Does anyone have any ideas on what is broken? Did the original PSU fry the motherboard or the processor? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

No guarantees but I still think it's the motherboard and the fact that smoke came off the board is generally an indication the board is either dead or severely injured - so I would simply RMA the motherboard and see if they will send you another. Else you could test all the other components on another board but that's probably not practical.

You answered your own question I think. It does sound like the MOBO got fried. I would guess MOBO and not CPU because that's usually the way it goes but I think all you can do about the CPU short of testing it on another board is to examine it for burns.

If the 4 pin connection got burnt then even if the rest of the board is OK it will not boot.

I would attempt to RMA the board and hope for the best with the CPU.

Update- I removed the USB case connector and reset BIOS and the computer actually booted up and the BIOS is reset thing came up. The problem is I need help getting past that because none of my keyboards or mice work-I've tried all the back USB ports and the PS2 ports and nothing responds. Could it be possible that all the USB ports on the motherboard got fried because I had to remove the USB connector, or would the whole thing be fried if that is the case? Also, any help getting past the reset screen?

The interesting thing is that when I turn the computer on with the PS2 keyboard plugged in the lights on the keyboard actually turn on but I can't do anything in BIOS. Also, the HDMI display port works, but the VGA port does not. I was thinking that maybe a lot of the ports are broken, but the keyboard did light up, so I'm really confused.
