I bought a copy of Far Cry 3 from Steam and after 5 minutes of gameplay my GPU fans are noticeably louder, after 10 minutes I get a Blue screen. Is anyone else having issues with overheating in Far Cry?

System specs:
Win 7 pro 64bit
Core i7 3.36ghz
16GB ram 1600mhz
GTX 680 Twin Frozr III
Corsair HX650W

As far as cooling goes, I use 2 140mm for intake, one 140mm and 120mm for exhaust.
CPU is cooled by Corsair H60

Finished Crysis, Crysis Warhead, Crysis 2, GTA IV/EFLC, Max Payne 3, Battlefield 3 not a single blue screen.

Before downclocking, I'd try turning MSAA off and just going with FXAA (equals roughly 4x MSAA with less stress on the card if FC3 supports it) - that made a ton of difference with BF3 and my 670 heat and noise-wise.

Could also try Ambient Occlusion to HBAO or just plain Off and check the impact.

Would be good to monitor temps and set a more aggressive GPU fan profile.

Weird, I know its a demanding game and all but so is Crysis 1/2 and from what I know they share a similar engine. Seems like its a bug in the game that causes heat issues. My card is slightly overclocked, but it comes like that from the factory and besides, my friend beat the whole game with a GTX 570 Twin Frozr III. I still have my old 570 too, I just don't want to swap out GPUs just to play a game.

Anyways, thanks for your responses.

you right about the demo from e3. but the game itself with story and everything you can do is great tough. give it a chance, i mean there are not that many good games being released in a year, only crysis3 and gta v if it comes this year and then next year probably just cause 3. and thats it :)

metro 2033 is too darkish, and it was for free from steam in december if you liked their studio page on facebook :) but also metro 2034 is going to be released this year i think, thats why they were giving away 2033 for free :)

damn lol, was planning on picking it up this week on steam for the 19.99 but it was free earlier lol? Damn... maybe will wait it out and they might have another special near the release of Metro 2034

Maybe I will give Far Cry 3 a chance!

Update:

This is getting kind of ridiculous, I even installed another 120MM fan on the side panel blowing air directly at the GPU, after 20 minutes, blue screen, part of my save file corrupted... This is after re-installing the driver. I am running the game on Medium settings, no AA, SSAO. How messed up is this game (or my computer for that matter) spending $500 on a brick with a DVI port, the least I can ask for is for it not to destroy the rest of my PC. I am so pissed off, I am about to buy an XBOX...LOL not really but seriously guys, if you have any suggestions let me know.

It's not ubisoft's fault for stressing his GPU harder than it can handle. The game is demanding, and may expose the GPU's problem, but it is not the fault of the software maker, at least not in this case.

The only times that something like this might be a software makers fault is when they let your FPS reach a 1000 FPS on stupid menus causing overheating, but those are rare. (Starcraft 2 at release caused issues due to this).
