Far Cry 4: Can my system run it 1080p 60fps (EDITED)

-i5 4460 3.20GHz
-MSI GTX 970 4GB
-Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600Mhz 2x4GB Dual Channel 8GB kit
-1920x1080 LG monitor
-500w Corsair CX Bronze
-1TB WCD Hard drive
-ASRock Z97 Anniversary Motherboard
-Windows 7 Ultimate

Hi Community

I would just a like a quick option on if i can run this game without my CPU going dangerously lose to 100% while vysnced as the CPU requirement is high?

I've looked on YouTube a bit an still not sure.
I have wanted to get Far Cry 4 when it got on Steam sale, it has, and so has Mad Max which i also wanted which i have now bought and ran which runs perfectly. Will Far Cry 4 run as well with no dips?

You can try game-debate.com, it compares your system to the game requirements and produces a report on which settings you can run the game on and how demanding it will be on your system.

Yeah you should be able to max out Far Cry 4 at 1080p and keep a constant 60fps. The i5 processor's certainly not going to bottleneck a gtx 970, and according to various benchmarks, you should be just fine. If the gtx 970's VRAM limitations cause you problems just lower shadows to medium and environment or object textures to high.

Well that's kind of a good thing to some extent if the cpu is at 80% usage because it means that the game is pretty much using all the cores of the cpu to their maximum potential. Granted if it's hitting 100% that's a problem, especially if the gpus aren't at 100% usage, because that would mean that your cpu probably is somewhat bottlenecking the gpu. I wouldn't be concerned about just about any i5 processor bottlenecking a gtx 970 though, i5s are pretty strong processors, great for gaming.

Okay well I have had like 4 hours to try out the game after a stupidly lengthy download.
After trying the games different settings I settled with textures on ultra, everything else on high, god rays enhanced, Tree swaying on, SMAA (all the other anti-aliasing settings look awful), Fur on.

-On my custom settings I get 58-60fps 1080p (fps wobbles between these two numbers while driving)
-I have seen the GPU go as high as 80% constant at some points with about 2100mb's used memory.
-All CPU cores go as high as 72 Celsius with at about 60-75% usages for some reason the 3rd core seems to be getting 80% and so taking more load than the others, these usages are on custom settings.
-On ultra the card goes to about 3200mb (so scarily close to the 3.5gb mark where after that there is slow memory).
-On ultra I dip to 50fps in areas with lots of structures but not forest areas, the dip is annoying so I use the custom settings.
-The games beautifully and I'm totally fine with my settings.


I hope this is informative to anyone looking to see if their similar build can run this game.

Just so I know for future reference what is my CPU's cores recommended max temp?

If I had an even more powerful CPU I should be able to push ultra. But ye this game really pushes my card, I haven't seen it break a sweat till now.

Intel cpus don't begin to take any damage really until they hit somewhere between 90 and 100 degrees Celsius, but you'll want to keep them below 80 to 85 degrees Celsius. If your cpu temps stay below 80 degrees Celsius consistently it should be just fine for years to come.

Also I'm using the stock cooler so what would be a better cooler to get but does not need bracketing and I can install the same why that I did with the stock one?

Well I don't think cpus really throttle themselves at all. If a cpu gets to hot it doesn't lower performance to cool it down like a gpu does, it either burns out and your computer shuts off forever, or it explodes and your rig burns (that's a worst case scenario of course, very rare). The stock cooler will cool it just fine, you shouldn't get temps above 85 degrees Celsius with a stock cooler, but if you want an aftermarket cooler I'd suggest the Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo, it's cheap but effective. Okay well doesn't that cooler need bracketing?

I don't know, but anything necessary to install it will come with he cpu cooler. If that requires you to install some sort of bracket then that's just how this cpu cooler works. I personally don't know of any air cooled cpu cooler that doesn't require some form of bracket to keep it in place, but I've never seen it really as a problem. Was it somewhat difficult to install the bracket for the Scythe Mugen 4 on my rig? Yeah, personally I needed a second person for it. But it's not impossible and I'm pretty sure it's necessary for most coolers. I may be wrong though. Just saying that it's the most popular budget cooler on the market and for good reason, most people will suggest it.
