Hi, I am trying to run far cry 4 on my pc and my specs are not half bad, the pc is simply restarting when I launch the game and sometimes freezing meaning I have to CTRL alt DEL.

Asus z97 pro
Nvidia GTX 970
i7 4790k
750w EVGA NEX750B

Please help I don't know weather it is my card or my psu

Thanks allot - Tom

It sounds like your CPU is overheating and shutting down your computer. Are you using the stock Intel cooler? They run notoriously hotter than most are comfortable with. If not that, check that your power supply is rated high enough for your setup. You can download AIDA64 to run a stress test or RealTemp to just check your temperatures.
What's the temperature when you try to run Far Cry 4? I think your computer might be overheating and restarting to prevent damage. Is your CPU OC'd? Are your fans all spinning? How is your cable management in your case? Is the computer being covered by anything?

All fans spinning and cpu is at stock level, the cable management is really good in the main are barely any. I dont know how to check cpu or gpu temp whilst it is loading as it is in full screen. If it is any relevance i am in dual monitor mode. Thanks for the reply.

I have cpu z, will check that out. My only problem is that I have seen forums where people have had the same issue and there graphics card has been fried. I just got mine for £270 So I really dont wanna take any risks...

Check FC4 is up to date, Steam and Uplay should autoupdate, current version at time of writing is 1.7 (it's in the bottom left and corner of the main start screen).
Check you have the latest WHQL drivers for the GTX970 installed, earlier drivers had a raft of problems with the GTX9xx cards, get them directly from the main Nvidia website, not from one of the many download sites out there, some of their stuff is riddled with nasties.
Try changing the power management mode of the '970: Open the Nvidia Control Panel>Manage 3D settings>scroll down to power management and it should be set to 'adaptive', set it to 'prefer maximum performance' and click on the 'apply' button.

Hi thanks for the great responses, In answer to all the questions. The game is fully updated, I have just done a cpu test and at 100% for 6:30 mins the cpu has been throttling so am buying the corsair h110, opinions? Will let you know when I have that installed if things continue!
