I've played a number of single player maps, actually, all of the best
ones I could find. Notables include AECanyon, Outpost22, Assignment41.
A couple of posts have sung praises for Devil's Canyon, and I must
agree. The designer seems to have found the edge between ridiculously
difficult and very hard. I got to enjoy the game for hours longer than
I should have, primarily due to the difficulty of 3 key points in the
game. The first holdup was just due to what could be called a RTFM
error. The second holdup was a failure to realize I had something
important. The third is why I say the game bordered on ridiculously
difficult.

I must say I enjoyed it greatly. I would compare it favorably with any
single level in the actual Far Cry game. Hats off to the designer.

Ooh, sounds like a fun map. Where can I download it without registering?
http://www.levels4you.com/review.l4y?file=11009 makes me want to register
which I am trying to avoid and that is the only place Google finds. :(

Have you tried SP-Madman maps? They are nice and difficult:

Devil's Island is a great map so far. Pretty hard, though. Gotta take out
a *lot* of mercs before the first save point but you start out with zero
armor and a sniper rifle with three shots. And the first save is just a
*little* too far beyond where it should be. He should have placed it about
50' earlier. I've gotten to the point where I blow up the radar dish down
by the beach. But before I can get to a save point afterwards (where is
heck it?), the darn chopper takes me out so I have to start over again.
When I try to shoot the chopper (or at least the gunner inside), the game
often freezes up on me. Rolling those barrels down to the radar is a pain
in the ass.

Also played AECanyon. A very gorgeous map but way too easy. It's more of a
'look at all the pretty trees!' map than anything else. The AI on the mercs
seems to be scaled back. They often just stand there while like sitting
ducks.

The map called "ai2" is also a very good map. AI on that map is scaled up
to be pretty smart. They repeatedly took me out many times in the beginning
parts of the map.

Assignment41 doesn't do much for me. It's obviously unfinished (very simple
textures, foilage pretty sparse still, etc.) I found a post by the creator
that it got leaked way earlier than he intended which happened after he sent
it to a few folks so they could test out what he had so far. In fact, it's
supposedly only level 1 of 3 that the author had originally conceived. I
find the level design a little annoying. For example, the map is sort of
'on rails' in that if you try and venture off not too far from how the
designer wants you to advance, you'll get hit with "Danger. Land mines."
warnings.

SABOTAGE is fairly small but v. good....
MATTO 2 is often given as one-of-the-best

OUTPOST 22 seems to be the allways-mentioned-in-these lists one.

Remember FARCRY has another sp map/level "hidden" in the retail game..
Bring down the console & enter \map demo ... stange liittle mission on a
very big island..

Luv mouse

I played Dvil's Island v1.30. I agree it is a good map, but it's buggy
for ATI Radeon cards. On the author's Web site
(http://home.hetnet.nl/~hubein/), it says:

WARNING:
This map seems to have a serious problem with RADEON video cards !!!
You may experience:
-A crash to desktop
-Disappearing objects (view distance mangled)
-Mission objects or radar indicator not shown after loading a savepoint
This matter is still under investigation.

I have ALL of those symptoms with my ATI Radeon 9800 Pro AIW (128 MB)
with CATALYST driver v5.3. I was wondering why my game crashed twice in
two hours! One time, my XP frozed after FarCry crashed! :(

I was unable to finish the map. I need to blow up the radar, but never
found the extra explosives. :( Maybe it is related to Radeon. :(

I hope other maps don't have this problem.

And yes, this map is HARD! Big too.
