The game still looks good. Until I get a better monitor it doesn't matter.

I've noticed a lot of little problems with the graphics in Far Cry; it doesn't seem like they took the time to really make sure that things look correct. If you look at the surfaces that use shaders, for example a diamond plate that is glowing in the moonlight even though there is a barrel sitting on it- the barrel casts no stencilled shadow on the surface, so even though the pretty moonlight is illuminating the plate, it looks rather unconvincing... there are a lot of glitches like this in the game, but there's a lot that looks really good too.

thats because the diamond plate is a texture, theres only length and width, theres no hight to it.

I look at Far Cry as something to fill the gap between the last generation of games and the upcoming Half-Life 2 and Doom 3 type games. It's a big step up from what we've had, but still doesn't have a lot of polish to it. There's a limited amount of objects that are interactive, some things don't cast shadows and so on. However, could you imagine playing Counter-Strike in the jungles from Far Cry? Overall, its a pretty good game. I've enjoyed the hell out of it. I wish they had spent a couple bucks on decent voice actors though.

Guys, no, seriously. Haven't any of you played Tron or Chrome? I swear, while I myself give Far Cry looks a solid 10 those other games look just as good. As a matter of fact, Chrome looks more polished than Far Cry in just about every respect. I think that what makes Far Cry stand out is the density of vegetation and a very long draw distance. But Chrome, for example is not far behind. Far Cry supposedly has a 1.25 kilometer draw distance but Chrome seems to have the same draw distance. Seriously. In any event, sometimes when I snipe someone from afar it takes me like 5+ minutes to walk to where they were to loot the corpse. And plants in Chrome do look much more natural than in Far Cry though vegetation is not as dense. Well, Chrome probably looks almost better because I am able to run it with good frame rates at 1152x864 and all graphics settings maxed while I cannot do the same with Far Cry, but I cranked up Far Cry to the max not to play but just to see if it would look better. It did look better, but not as well-polished as Chrome... Far Cry is way over-hyped, even with regard to its graphics.

If you have not read this post, take a look:

Though the draw distance in farcry isnt perfect either (with the binoculars @ full mag i can get missing scenery at times)

Yeah, Farcry is an indicator of what is to come... I love the water effects though, definately a step up on other fps i have played...

Trust me I know what I'm doing... ooops, grab the cat...

I don't think there is missing scenery if you turn up the detail levels. Of course there is a big framerate drop.

unfortunately there is missing scenery....
I am playing with everything (including AA and AF) at max, at 1024x768, and sometimes I cannot see NPC's using the binoculars (if they are very far away). If I take one or two steps ahead, they appear. And yes, I see their background details very well, I just don't see the people.
