Farcry 3 doesn't match the trailer/demo on Youtube

One of the reasons why I built a new PC last week is so I can play games like Farcry 3. It really amazed me how realistic the graphics looked. So I built a new PC and bought Farcry 3 for $29.99 on Steam.

All of the graphic settings are the highest it can go. My firmware and drivers are up to date. When I played the game, the graphics in both the gameplay and animation were not as good as the trailer/demo. My friend told me that they were showing console versions of the game.

If it matters, I have an overclocked GTX 750Ti and AMD FX-8320; the game runs smoothly but the graphics are not as good as the trailer/demo.

Really disappointed. Do I have to buy a better graphics card or is my friend right?

Solution
That is either:
1) Rendered with an off-line renderer

similar to what Method Studios did in 2010 using VRay for the Halo trailer

2) Rendered from the SDK of the game engine in non-real time with over-the-top settings and larger than ingame textures and shader complexity using video cards with large vRAM quantities (in other words - Quadro's or Titans or etc.)

That is at least my educated guess.
It is possible that they are looking at console, but if you want to have REALLY high quality, than you may want to have a better GPU. I would suggest an R9 380 or a GTX 960...

Remember though, console games can be different than PC ones.

PC is still masterrace.

Trailers always look better than the real game. Usually they are rendered using a off-line renderer (i.e. not in real time) and then composited using other software. It is similar to how tho implement 3D visual effects in motion pictures.

If the settings are maxed out then they are maxed out a better gpu will just help them run faster.
Consoles tend to have lower settings than max on a PC, more like medium.

have you a link to the you tube in question?

A more powerful GPU will only get you more frames per second if you have everything cranked up to ultra. As far as your other questions are concerned, usually the 'trailers' for games are not representative of actual gameplay, and in general console graphics are inferior to PC ones (unless you have a very lowly GPU)

this is true, it could be that the link you used was not in game footage.

Hello. Thank you everybody for the response. I believe you guys are right because the link I provided has animation that is not in the game.

Dang, man. I got duped. It's ok though, Farcry 3 is very fun to play.

I actually hate console. My last console I bought was the Nintendo back in 1988.
