Well, thats the graphics ranking in my opinion. I have played them all three and to start with. Doom3 is just a dark place with not much eye candy visible. Half Life 2 is a great looking game, but isn't it a bit empty. Where is the grass and threes and stuffs in outdoor sceenes????
In my opinion Farcry is whooping the ass on both D3 and HL2. It has nice looking atmosphere. Better AI then HL2 and more visibility than D3.
What is your reflections of theese games?

yur spot on in my opinion... D3 graphics initially look great but are [-peep-] looking up close.

HL2 also looks great at the start but u quickly notice that everything is fairly bland.

The only thing I would say is that Farcry and D3 require fairly decent pc's to look good while HL2 is very scalable

Doom 3 is the most advanced of the three graphics engines; however, it requires a lot of modification and hacks to do daytime, outdoor areas. The unified lighting/shadows system makes it more progressive than HL2 or Far Cry.

Farcry impressed me alot because when the demo came out, I had not played anything that looked that good. Nor had i seen my system brought to it's knees like that either. I just enjoy the large outdoor maps and vegitation. Dark Doom 3 just didn't do it for me at all, but I'll say that I was at times impressed with what the engine can do. Although it wasn't a lasting wow impression like farcry and HL2. HL2 I found to be very impressive also, especially since I could play it at 1280x1024 High. It needs AA to look it's best though, and my card can't handle 1280x1024 high and 4X AA. Considering I played through half of HL recently, HL2 obviously looked incredible in comparison. It's a toss up on Farcry and HL2 for me, but all three have places they shine.

to me, doom 3 wasnt all that great. shadows and stuff are good, but it just looked like crap. theres a fine line between accuracy as far as the darkness in a situation like that and playability, doom3 crossed the line. now, far cry and hl2. thats a close one. hl2 wins with the creature models and animation. the water in each game is supurb. i think i might have to give it to hl2 on a count of murkyness though. so far in respect to vehicles. far cry wins. not that the fan boat wasnt fun as hell in hl2, but it was basicaly indestructable for a junky little thing. far crys vehicles are very good and destructable. but as far as environment, far cry wins hands down. huge distances where you can actually shoot people at those distances, and you can actually go to those places you see. almost every barrier in the game is a natural rock face or a cliff or somthing. absolutely astounding. as far as the lack of vegitation in hl2. pay attention to the story line. the whole place is in shamgbles. city 17 is a mess, do you really think the combine hires gardeners? and ravenhold is run by that crazy priest, i dont think he has time to tend the hedges.

this is my boomstick!

I agree. I bought Doom3 the day it was released, played it for maybe 30 minutes, and it went back in the drawer, so I could finish playing FarCry.

I don't think FarCry got the kind of response it should have. From looking at the box I didn't expect much, which is the reason I waited quite a while before buying it. Even thought about buying Battle Field Vietnam before FarCry!

In my opinion FarCry is a far superior game. The only real downside to it is, that you need a powerful machine to really enjoy the game to the fullest.

Farcry was a must have ever since GW started this farcry thread and I played the demo. That game came out of nowhere, at least to me. And it wowed me for sure. As you can see, it stirred up alot of talk for a demo.

I was definitely blown away by the demo. Actually I still think it looks great- the engine is perfectly suited to the outdoor environments.

The graphics in D3 and Farcry are very nice but HL2 takes the cake for story and realism. For me D3 and Farcry had no replayability at all. I haven't played Farcry since it's release and I still can't stand to play it again. I've played HL2 through at least 5 times now and it still hasn't bored me. The environment, characters, and sounds are so realistic I just can't stop playing it. D3 and Farcry just felt completely fake so I couldn't really get into them at all.
The source engine is so well done my Thinkpad T42 can run it as smoothly as my desktop machine making my 3hr computer classes a little less painful :) My laptop could barely run D3 and Farcry so I didn't even bother w/ them.
