Farmerstel and wireless

I have Farmerstel optical fiber internet access. Recently they jumped the speeds to 50mbs from 10. However I am only getting 20mbs wireless. I called them and they say the speed is only on the cat cable direct connect. In other words the router is capped at 20mbs. To make matters worse, its their router, I can't buy my own and I can not get access to it. I cant even get Google chromecast to work, I talked to a specialist at Google and they sent me a list of what I need to change in the router but Farmerstell wont change it and I cant. To make matters worse they upped the price to $69.99 per month and that's the only plan that they now offer. Before the kick up they had 6,10,20mbs at lower prices. The only other company i can get is centureylink DLS and they are really slow and oversold. Im wondering if I should try satellite.

I have 50/50 from Verizon FiOS. My router is stuck at 20/20 for WiFI. My solution? Wired for everything that matters, WiFi for the very few things I don't care about the speed for.
Or, I could buy the better router ($100) from Verizon.

Your potential solution?
Buy an Access point, and use that WiFi instead of what comes out of the router. A good Access Point hardwired to the router will generally give you greater speed.

Don't get satellite. It will be far, far worse.
