Faster AM3 CPU's

I'm close to buying a new system with a Phenom II CPU but alot of people have told me to wait for the AM3 processors. Since I was going for the PII 940 I don't want to go with AM3 and downgrade the processor to an AM3 2.6GHz processor. So my question is, when will there be faster AM3 CPU's in black edition?

Fudzilla says there will be faster quad cores for the AM3 socket somewere in Q2 2009 but that could either be in 2 months or in 7 months. 2 months is ok but I kinda hate waiting 7 months. But I also don't want to have an old system 7 months from now so maybe there is some more accurate news about when these new processors will be launched?

Why wait when AM2+ PII 940 is available right now and cheaper? I don't think any faster AM3 cpu gonna be run any faster than PII940 (overclockwise).

If I remember correctly, an AM3 cpu @ 3.5gh will be introduce at around end of 2009. I don't believe this cpu can be o/c to any higher than what PII940 can achieve today.

Get it now and have fun with it OR keep waiting until... errr, who knows? lol

I believe the AM3 Phenom II 945 BE @ 3.0Ghz launches in April along with the Athlon X4/X3 series. There is rumor of them slowly bringing the clock speeds up with new models with a maximum of 3.5Ghz, but it'll be the same core and won't be any faster than an overclocked 945.

If you insist upon an AM3 build wait until April and you should be good. Personally I'll be waiting for an AM3 cpu but I'm still putting it in an AM2+ socket with DDRII.

The toms article on the new AM3 CPUs suggests that the X3 2.6 Black Edition will be available for around $150. That's pretty good, considering you're getting a newer DDR3 system.

The only reason the faster clockspeed Am3's isn't being introduced this week, is to not undercut the suppliers who bought and are selling the 920 and 940. Find out when AMD stops taking new 920/940 orders and you know you're release date for their bigger horsepower Am3's.

I heard that there will be AM3 CPUs which will be launch and available by this month: February and April 2009. AMD has to launch AM3 CPUs by Q1 2009. Techpowerup mentioned about the launch of AM3 Phenom II X4 945 and perhaps also 925 by April 2009 (if I'm correct). The difference between AM3 Phenom II X4 925 and AM2+ Phenom II X4 920 is just the RAM Memory. AM3 will use DDR3 while AM2+ will use DDR2. AM3's DDR3 will give you extra performance boost over DDR2 but I don't think that it will be much difference.
