Hello, I am looking to buy a new HDD 1TB or 2TB SATA 3 drive. I have my windows on an SSD. I just want something very fast and effecient! I do not want any lag!

I am between WD Black and Seagate barracuda

What do you suggest?

What about an SSHD? They're a lot faster than regular HDD's, but not super pricey like a SSD.
Something like the 1TB Seagate ST1000DX001 is good.

There would be no difference in performance from a SATA II vs a SATA III HDD.
The mechanical properties of an HDD prevent it from utilizing the full bandwidth of even SATA II.

The Seagate Barracuda 1TB and the WD Blue 1TB are both 7200RPM with 64MB cache.
They both fluctuate in price between $40-$60, get which either is cheaper. They are both great drives!

Well lag can depend on the rest of your system and your own perception as well. It is hard to say what is best for you in that regard. I have a 5,400RPM 2TB HDD from Samsung that I never feel any slow down with. Double-click and a split second later it is finished. So I tend to think that it is plenty fast enough for moving around normally, but some people think otherwise.

Certainly there are drives that will transfer data faster such as 10,000RPM drives but those tend to make more noise and use a bit more power, in addition to costing more so I typically don't go for them.

So my recommendation would probably be this:

I prefer Seagate HDDs so I picked it. It has 2TB for not too much cost, lots of space, and has a 7200RPM speed with 64MB cache so shouldn't have any real slow down.

An SSHD would help to improve load times if you have something on the drive you frequently access, but unfortunately it does nothing for transfer speeds. So this only becomes a real key improvement if you will frequently access a small number of files.

Totally true, but it could make your pc feel a little bit faster while browsing trough windows explorer or something like that.

It very well might. It could load the file directory into the SSD section.

Also if he just ends up watching videos and stuff a lot, that would end up helping. For example I would love if my WD SE 3TB was an SSHD cause it goes into power saver mode then lags big time starting back up when I want to watch a TV episode. While an SSHD would end up loading them into the SSD section fast enough and then it would load seamlessly.

It wouldn't hurt, if the price isn't too different to get the extra feature of having an SSHD.

Thank you for your answers. I am between the WD black 1TB and the Seagate Barracuda 1TB.
The WD model is much newer, do you think this will make any difference?
Also what about the noise? I have read that WD black is much noisier than the Barracuda.
