Hiya, folks! What's the fastest Intel Socket 775 Core 2 Duo CPU that an Acer Aspire M1600 will support? The Acer support website just says, "Core 2 Duo" without mentioning a specific model number or speed rating, nor does it give the mobo model info. It did, however, say that the maximum FSB speed it will support is 800 Mhz. Thanks in advance for any help or advice you folks can provide!

No it's a Core2Duo thankfully. The Pentium D chips were before Core2 and were terrible.

I honestly can't find anything better about that board than this post. The posts by Wrench97 are completely accurate.

It looks like Acer might be useless for finding out what CPUs are actually compatible with it. The bad thing about OEM boards is that they may not support all the CPUs that the chipset 'officially' supports since they will use a proprietary version of BIOS.

Your best bet might be to at least try and contact Acer support and see if they can give you a detailed list. Sorry I can't give you a more precise answer.
There won't be an upgrade that you would notice. The 800Mhz FSB Core2 processors are the E4xxx series from the 1.8Ghz E4300 to the 2.6Ghz E4700. So you are talking about the lowest end processors from 7 1/2 years ago. Your money would be much better spent on a new low end motherboard, CPU and RAM.

It isn't as simple as that, unfortunately! This is a system I already have, which was given to me just recently. I'm on government disability, and with the holidays season getting underway, I need to keep my expenses to a bare minimum. I've already bought and installed the maximum amount of RAM this beast will support, so I need to upgrade the CPU to get whatever speed boost I can until I can afford something better. If the E4700 is the fastest available, then that's what I'll need to go with for the time being.

The mainboard is listed as an Acer F672CR. The CPU is a Pentium E2140 Dual-Core @1.6 Ghz.Conroe. It may very well be a Pentium D.
